This contract represents the ninth phase in the continuation of a very successful project, the Preserve at Piscataway. This project has served both Gaines and Company and the owner well. On this phase, Gaines and Company will perform both the grading and utilities as well as manage the site paving and bio-retention work. The job started with 10 acres of weeds to be cleared by RLO. Much of this was along the wet, marshy sewer outfall. Three massive ponds will be constructed averaging over 4,000 cy of fill per trap. Earth dikes and 3,300 linear feet of silt fence will also be constructed. 55,000 cy of topsoil must be stripped and disposed of. There is 52,000 cy more of cut to fill and another 20,000 cy of strip and disposal on the job. As mentioned, there is a very demanding sewer outfall stretching just under a mile, requiring 5,125 linear feet of 8” PVC & DIP. Also included in the outfall are 26 manholes, three stream crossings and a lot of subsurface water conditions to be controlled. The site work on this project includes 7,420 LF of 6” and 8” PVC ranging from 8’-20’ deep. It also includes another 49 sewer manholes and 103 sewer house connections. The water also has challenging elements to it, principally two 16x10 tapping sleeves and valves, and one 8x8 tapping sleeve and valve. Added to that is 7,765 LF of 8” and 6” DIP, paired with eight fire hydrants and thirteen 8” and 6” valves. There are 103 single water house connections. The storm system is not quite as large as the sewer and water systems. There are 2,330 LF of reinforced concrete pipe ranging from 15” to 30” in diameter. It also contains two A-15, fifteen A-10 and one A-5 inlet. There are nine yard inlets, six 60” storm manholes and ten 48” manholes. There are also three end walls and three end sections. The three ponds required 500 LF of 36”-42” reinforced concrete pipe and a concrete cradle with risers, weir walls, trash racks, valves and end walls. Each pond contains an elaborate Gabion fore bay. Lastly, 7,345 tons of stone base will be laid by MT Laney. Then, 10,850 LF of curb and gutter will be installed by Rullman Brothers. Next, Laney will install 3,441 tons of asphalt base, followed by 1,774 tons of intermediate asphalt and 1,774 tons of surface. This subdivision, a long way from Reisterstown, has a very successful history and Gaines and Company is happy to be a part of it.
