Q: HOW MANY OFFICES DO YOU HAVE?

A: Two. Our office in Reisterstown handles most of the billings, payables and estimating. Our satellite office in Raleigh supports operation in North Carolina.

Q: HOW MANY CREWS DOES THE COMPANY RUN?

A: Gaines and Company now runs over 13 large pipe crews and 5 smaller service crews.

Q: WHAT SIZE CREW IS YOUR PIPE CREW?

A: In most cases, it will include about eight men, two excavators, two loaders, a roller, miscellaneous trench boxes, mizers, pumps, etc.

Q: HOW MANY EMPLOYEES DOES THE COMPANY HAVE?

A: The company has approximately 150 employees - 65% in Maryland and 35% in North Carolina.

Q: WHAT SIZE JOB DOES THE COMPANY PREFER?

A: Really, no job is too small or large. The most common size seems to be $500,000 to $5,000,000. Although, we currently have a $10,000,000 job under contract.

Q: CAN THE COMPANY GET A BOND?

A: Yes, we have had a strong relationship with Surety companies for the past 50 years, and continue to have a great relationship with Travelers Insurance Company.

Q: DOES YOUR COMPANY HAVE A SAFETY PROGRAM?

A: Yes, we have an active program directed by Kevin Johnson in Maryland, and Paul Billings, Safety Coordinator in North Carolina. Murray & Associates of Maryland and Safety Tech Consultants in North Carolina are our safety consultants.

Q: DOES THE COMPANY OWN ITS EQUIPMENT OR LEASE IT?

A: The company, through a sister company, the F & L Company, owns outright virtually all of its own equipment.  The company also has a subsidiary company, First Class Hauling, that hauls heavy equipment for Gaines & Company and also for other contractors and equipment dealers in Maryland.
