November’s crew of the month goes to the Mark Butcher crew, working on the Pratt Street water replacement job at Fort Bragg. This is one of the six water replacement jobs we are undertaking on the base. All the work is either in the road or along side the traveled road. The crew is functioning very efficiently thru multi-talking among test-pitting, pipe laying and backfill, old pipe removal, and restoration by seeding and mulching, paving and the hauling off of pipe. Multiple tie-ins are needed on each block. Production has been very good as everyone is asked to work independently at times.

Digging for Mark has been Sam Wilkens. Other operators are Jose Adame and Ed Raynor. Pipelayer Dewey Bumpass is ably assisted by Celso Adame, Sam Rivenbark, Miguel Aguilar and Mike Blizzard. Joey Lafarge has been invaluable assisting operations.

Our customer, ONUS, is very pleased with the speed and clean look of our finished work.

For the month of August, excellent work was performed by many crews. Three crews stand out of particularly well; those led by Rusty Gaines, Pat Dixon and Bill Gaines.

Rusty’s crew stepped up the production at Tanyard Cove with Brian Kerns on the excavator and Alvaro on the track loader. Joe Shanahan assisted during the sewer work. Laying the pipe primarily were Juan Calderon and John White. Also Alex Atienza, Colin Gaines and Solomon Ticas assisted over the month. Christian Perez ran the wheel loader. Together they laid 3,654 feet of sewer along with 6 manholes and 101 cleanouts. They also laid 1,386 feet of storm drain and 19 structures. Lastly they laid 1,950 feet of water main along with 55 fittings, 4 fire hydrants, and 43 – 1 ½” services. All lines were tested and backfill was completed and compacted satisfactorily. It was particularly challenging to switch from water to sewer to storm while maintaining production.

Another crew having an outstanding month was Pat Dixon’s crew. On their Deep Creek job they laid 1076 feet of sewer in one day followed by 732 the next day. Outstanding! For the month they laid 2,626 feet of sewer, 924 feet of water and 4,611 feet of storm drain. They also set 50 structures, 3 fire hydrants, and 65 clear outs. Pat has assembled an energetic crew with Mark Smith, Dave Collins, Dave Ruffa and Wayne Allen operating, Al Manzano and Zac Cofield laying pipe, and Jeremy Coffield and Daniel Torres assisting. Way to go!

Also having an extraordinary production month was Bill Gaines’ grading crew at Bonnie View. At this stage, Bonnie View is a haul off job. Led by Steve Dawson on the excavator, they loaded about 2,675 loads of top soil and fill in August. On some days, they loaded out over 200 loads! Dustin Coleman, Greg Kirk and Andrew Gisriel helped in the effort. Well done!

For the month of July, we had two winners, Pat Dixon’s crew and Bill Gaines’ crew. They both had outstanding productive months with good quality control earning them a free lunch!

Pat’s crew installed mostly sewer at Deep Creek. New hoe operator, Mark Smith led the way with Dave Collins and Dave Ruffa on the loaders. The Zac & Jeremy Cofiell duo laid much of the pipe with new hands Alfonzo Manzano and Daniel Torres assisting part of the month. Together they laid 3865 feet of sewer and 19 manholes, 1790 feet of water main with a TSV and 2 FH, and 510 LF of storm drain with two inlets. Great work!

Bill’s crew worked long hours grading Fieldstone in record time to keep Lennar Homes on schedule. Key man Steve Dawson set the pace on the excavator for all to follow. Spencer Schaeffer, Sean Brown and Dustin Coleman handled the off road trucks. Jim Hindle ran the dozer and Rodger Stonesifer assisted on the export with his 330. Gary Collins was also involved. Together they cut and filled over 50,000 CY of dirt and exported over 26,000 CY of dirt over the month. Keep it up, we like it!

           Honorable Mention:

Ronnie Rogers- 714’ sewer on a day at Fieldstone and excellent effort all month.

Rusty Gaines- excellent production throughout the month at Tanyard.

Mike Shotola (w/ help from Darren) – 72- 1” water meter over 3 days in 100 degree weather at Camp LeJeune. Phew!
