Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina – November 30, 2009 – Operation Coming Home wins Best Community Project in the State, Best Community Spirit in the Region, and Best Community Spirit in the Nation!

 The Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County joined forces with the Triangle Real Estate and Construction Veterans and the Armed Forces Foundation to create a Military Veterans Task Force.

Our Mission was to aid a local military service member and his or her family who was recently wounded in combat by helping the family live the American Dream of owning their own home—thus the creation of  Operation: Coming Home.

 In 2008, Royal Oaks Building Group, Atreus Homes, and Gaines and Company built a new home for SGT Joey Bozik, a wounded soldier of the 16^thMilitary Police, who was injured in Iraq. The purpose of this project was to provide SGT Bozik with a home that was custom built to his precise needs and to better his quality of life. It was equipped with zero threshold floors, wider doorways, custom shower, special ramps, sprinkler system, and a custom kitchen with appliances set to accommodate someone in a wheelchair to name a few.

This project started with a groundbreaking ceremony on May 30, 2008 in the Southern Oaks subdivision where Gaines and Company had donated the land. This wonderful new home was completed on October 27, 2008 with a huge military-style Extreme Makeover event called Operation: Coming Home’s Alive Day. The Alive Day Key Ceremony began with a parade and military performances.

 On Monday, October 27, 2008 the keys to the home were parachuted and presented to the Bozik family by the Army Black Daggers, a Special Forces Parachute Team. At the end of Operation: Coming Home with the crowd cheering and crying with joy, SGT Joey Bozik finally came home.

 On Tuesday, January 19, 2010 the Operation Coming Home Team will accept the award for Best Community Spirit in the Nation at “The Nationals Awards” in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gaines & Company, Inc. Receives 2009 Best of Raleigh Award

U.S. Commerce Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement

WASHINGTON D.C., June 8, 2009 — Gaines & Company, Inc. has been selected for the 2009 Best of Raleigh Award in the Utility Contractors category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).

The USCA “Best of Local Business” Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2009 USCA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.

Roger Stonesifer
Stoney came to Gaines & Co. years ago without, it seemed, a single tattoo. He was shy and worked as a laborer before advancing to loader operator by exhibiting the strongest of work ethic. He is always early and his backhoe is always digging. He’s accumulated lots of praise, including the extra effort award, and lots of tattoos as well. He and his wife, Karen live in Hampstead with his daughter Whitney who is now a high school graduate and freshman in college.

Paul Reina
Paul has filled a variety of rolls for the company. He started as a laborer, advanced to operating wheel loaders and later some track loaders. He was always a great asset to his foreman, thinking ahead and helping the foreman organize his materials. Paul was recently promoted to a punch list foreman and is putting those same skills to work. He lives in Rosedale with his wife Laura, son Joshua, age 10 and daughter, Kristlyn, age 9.

Jose Andino
Jose immediately distinguished himself when on Mike Soul’s crew because he constantly ran after parts when they were needed. This energized the whole crew and upgraded their effort and production. After a year or so he became a lead pipelayer for Ron Rogers he continues to lead his crew by example and by thinking ahead. We’d love to have 5 more like Jose. He lives in his own house in Middle River with his wife Angela and children, Jovani and Anna.

Eric Evans
Eric worked on Rod’s crew for years in a variety of rolls, laborer, then operator, then pipelayer. He eventually landed on Aubrey’s crew and is again running a wheel loader. He organizes the job for Aubrey, thinking ahead and getting materials where they need to be. He’s one of our most dependable people and instrumental in getting his crew into a high productive range. Eric lives with his son Eric Jr.,age 4 and daughter Akira, age 14 in Baltimore.

Luis Ramirez
Luis has come a long way in five years he has been with Gaines. He started out as a loader operator and quickly distinguished himself as a hard worker with a lot of potential. He has always been know to be fastidious about the care, operation and appearance of his equipment and it shows. Now he is competent person trained and is the lead hoe operator for Mark Butcher’s crew which consistently gets outstanding production.

Celso Remirez
Celso joined Gaines with his brother Luis. Celso has worked his way up the ranks from the ditch to the rubber tire loader. Celso has proven to be a dependable and hard worker member of Mark Butcher’s crew. He has also distinguished himself as one of the funniest pranksters in North Carolina as he likes to look for the levity in a situation even when the going is rough.
