Gaines Goes Green

Gaines and Company has made it a priority to carry out its construction activities in a way to minimize our carbon footprint.  There are many ways to accomplish this, striving to use recycled materials in our pipe is one way.  Another is to recycle materials found on job sites, such as rock, asphalt or concrete. An additional method uses new non-polluting equipment which requires less fuel.

We are an active member in the Clean Water Construction Coalition, which is an organization whose purpose is to lobby Congress to provide funding to help achieve our goal of clean water in this country.  The group has been very active on Capitol Hill and we hope a new Clean Water Act passes this year.

Gaines has been a leader in constructing new projects featuring the latest techniques such as the stream restoration in the storm water management project pictured here in White Marsh.  We have also constructed several Coastal Plain Outfalls, another new technology, at our Tanyard Cove project in Anne Arundel County.

Gaines and Company is also partnering with Free Rain to provide creative water harvesting systems.  The company has a system which ultimately saves millions of gallons of potable water by recycling it for use in other activities such as lawn maintenance.  Gaines and Company has some of its first jobs under contract.
