More Than Internal Safety

Gaines and Company offers extensive safety training to employees.

Gaines and Company has an industry-leading safety program that has been recognized with dozens of awards. What makes our safety program so successful?

“Our safety program is not contained within the walls of our offices or even the confines of our job sites,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “Our safety culture reaches throughout our workforce, across the industry, and to all regions of the country.”

A Boundless Safety Culture

That’s right, we believe a truly effective safety program has no bounds.

“I am passionate about my job and relentless in ensuring all of our employees return home safely every day,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “Our team does a great job to not cut corners. Rather, we always err on the side of caution to keep our employees and the communities we work in safe.”

The Gaines and Company safety culture is recognized industry-wide through awards, board seats, and industry association memberships.

Take, for instance, the Calm Retreat development project in Brandywine, Maryland, where we tied the development and utilities to Route 301 South. To reduce the impact on traffic, we worked on this project at night.

“Everything is heightened with night work,” said Dominic. “We took all precautions to make sure everyone worked safely, which is why we called in TES (Traffic Engineering Services) and Maryland State Police for their help.”

Acquiring traffic assistance for this job may have come at an additional expense for Gaines, but it was a necessary expense to ensure employee and community safety.

Stepping off the Job Site

We have witnessed first-hand the impact on friends and families when safety is not prioritized through our volunteer work and giving with Construction Angels, a national 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides immediate financial assistance and grief counseling to children and spouses of victims fatally injured in construction-related incidents.

Gaines and Company is proud to volunteer time and donate money to safety-related organizations, like Construction Angels.

“We sit on boards, volunteer our time, and go to trainings throughout the country to get out of our daily routines and learn how to best identify, prevent, and eliminate safety risks,” said Safety Manager Tommy Trent. “Then we act – making changes and ensuring our safety culture protects not only our employees and the communities we work in, but also that we are making an impact on the industry and communities we serve.”

Gaines and Company has a vision to not contain our safety program to only our employees and projects. Rather, we strive to spread our safety culture industry-wide. Will you join us?
