Gaines Provides Alternate Language Options for the Health and Safety of All Employees.
A Gaines employee is a Gaines employee despite language preferences. When it comes to safety, it’s no different. That’s why Gaines offers alternate language options for Spanish-speaking employees, to ensure health and safety messages are reaching all workers, creating one unified safety culture.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 30% of construction workers are Hispanic (2020).
In the early 2000s, OSHA found that Hispanic workers were more likely to experience work-related injuries.
Experts cited the issue due to a lack of knowledge, training, supervision, and language and cultural barriers.
Therefore, OSHA created the Hispanic Task Force to provide outreach assistance and Spanish-language education and training to ensure safety messages thoroughly cover the entire organization, despite language preferences.
As an industry-leader in safety, Gaines followed OSHA’s lead and also provides alternate language options to ensure worker health and safety.
“From our website to our safety briefings, we offer Spanish translations to reach and cover a wider-range of employees and potential employees,” said Safety Manager Tommy Trent. “We continuously look for ways to incorporate Spanish translations into all of our messages.”
Materials that Gaines provides both English- and Spanish- versions include:
- Website
- Employee portal
- Equipment Inspection Book
- Training Materials
- Online Training
“When it comes to safety, we want to have a unified Gaines and Company safety culture. We can’t do this if there is a language barrier,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “That’s why instead of assuming everyone understands our messages, we translate messages into Spanish to ensure they are adequately and accurately understood by our entire organization.”
Translating health and safety messages into Spanish for everyone to understand is just another example of how Gaines and Company is committed to continually enhancing its industry leading safety culture.
