Gaines and Company Celebrates OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week
Rain day safety training brings local crews together.
During the week of August 13-19, 2018, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is sponsoring Safe + Sound Week, a nationwide event to promote and celebrate the value of successful occupational health and safety programs, incorporating management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to hazard and risk identification and resolution.
Companies of all sizes spanning all industries are encouraged to participate. Believing that a good safety practice is a good business practice, Gaines and Company, a site development contractor, incorporates safety into every aspect of its business.
The organization is proud to partner with OSHA and other participating companies to celebrate Safe + Sound Week.
Because Gaines and Company values each employee as an individual, its longstanding Safety Excellence Program encourages, enhances, and celebrates safe practices both on and off the job site.
The program not only provides open and consistent communication addressing site and public safety, which proactively mitigates potential hazards, but also encourages communication of safety excellence, providing encouragement and positive examples to be shared throughout the organization.
As part of the Gaines and Company Safety Excellence Program, all workers must complete new-hire orientation and safety training, which includes a multitude of training related to site development, underground utilities, stormwater management, and roadway work safety. Further training is required for specific job duties.

In addition to its comprehensive training program, Gaines and Company awards an employee or crew at each of its locations on a quarterly basis for their outstanding personal commitments and dedication to safety. An annual Safety Crew of the Year award is also given based on significant and steadfast diligence to the company’s safety goals, mission, and performance throughout the entire duration of the year.
Most recently incorporated into the Gaines and Company Safety Excellence Program is the Sportex Safety Shop. Workers who perform notable safe work earn safety rewards, which can then be redeemed through the online store for a multitude of safety items, further encouraging safe work practices.

In addition to its proven Safety Excellence Program, Gaines and Company was a proud recipient of the 2016 National Contractors Insurance (NCI) Risk Excellence Award and is a member of several safety organizations, including National Safety Council, NUCA (National Utility Contractors Association), and Associated Utility Contractors of Maryland.
