Brandy Smith Keeps Wheels Moving

Brandy Smith joined Gaines and Company in December 2023 as a Technical Equipment Support Specialist. Due to her readiness to help and willingness to learn, her role has expanded into so much more. And she’s not done yet!
Brandy supports the tracking and maintenance of vehicles and equipment throughout Gaines’s Maryland and North Carolina locations. This isn’t just a few dozen pieces of equipment – not even close! It’s about 550 total assets – about 400 pieces of equipment and over 150 vehicles. The magnitude of her work that keeps Gaines’s operations progressing includes:
- Tracking equipment and vehicles
- Ensuring all vehicles meet DOT requirements
- Logging maintenance records
- Managing work orders
- Maintaining DOT compliance
- Recording new vehicles and equipment
- Monitoring equipment diagnostics
- Reporting 25,000-mile DOT inspections
As a quick learner and efficient worker, Brandy is always eager to expand her scope of work.
“Since Brandy helps manage our equipment, I wanted her to join me on a refresher DOT compliance course with Maryland Motor Truck Association,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “She eagerly agreed and has since been a great partner with our Safety team in ensuring our vehicles are in compliance.”
“I try to learn as much as I can,” said Brandy. “My next goal is to learn FMCSA [Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration] compliance. The more I can learn, the better.”
When asking Brandy what she likes best about her job, it’s the people she works with.
“They are all so great,” said Brandy. “It’s so laid back, and everyone helps each other out. It’s fun to come to work every day!”
