Pete Thorn Earned a New Promotion: RETIREMENT
After 5 decades of construction work (over 20 of those years with Gaines and Company), Equipment Operator Pete Thorn has transitioned into retirement.
Many years ago, Pete met Vice President Myrt Gaines, and they quickly formed a relationship rooted in trust and respect.
“Pete always impressed me with his construction knowledge,” said Myrt. “We have been so fortunate to have him as part of our team for the last 20-some years, bringing his experience and expertise to our projects and sharing his knowledge with our crews.”
Project Manager Keith Eagle said, “Pete was a jack-of-all-trades within the company. We knew we could go to him for anything we needed because he was willing to do whatever it took to help get the job done with quality, precision, and care.”

One of the many aspects Pete loved most about his job was the way his crews looked out for each other. They understood expectations, worked to make sure everything ran smoothly, and went home safely.
“The people I’ve worked with at Gaines are good guys,” said Pete. “Working with them has been a nice way to end my career.”
In his retirement, Pete plans to enjoy his shore home in Chincoteague, Virginia, with his wife.
“I plan to fish, crab, and do whatever I want,” said Pete. “Let’s be honest, I can’t sit around and watch people work. I’ll probably get a small job somewhere!”
Don’t work too hard, Pete! You’ve earned this retirement!
