Q2 Maryland Safety Excellence Awards are Here!

T.J. Bradshaw is the Q2 2019 Gaines and Company Maryland safety recognition recipient. He was presented with the excellence award on Friday for his outstanding safety achievements.
- Stands out in safety because: “T.J. is the first to share his safety knowledge and he’s not afraid to ask a question.” Dominic Pope, Safety Director, Gaines and Company.
- What he does: T.J. is a punch list laborer working with Gaines and Company for five years. He bump tests four gas monitors and checks sensors, making sure all equipment is in working order before confined space, trench and other underground utilities crew entry.

- Dominic says: “From day one, T.J. has shown an interest in safety and knows how to incorporate it into his day to day work.” Dominic Pope, Safety Director, Gaines and Company

- Safety values: He is the first to help out crewmembers with OSHA safety policies on the jobsite. “T.J. is adamant in making sure new employees work safely whether they’re on his crew for a day or for two years, he’s the first to make sure that everybody is always paying attention to safety,” says Safety Director, Dominic Pope.
T.J. raises safety awareness. “He’s very good at bringing something to my attention right away,” says foreman, Dave Collins, “then I can make the proper calls to ensure everything is the way it should be.”
- Safety e-store: T.J. received $150 in safety bucks good towards gear from the online store for items like shirts, jackets and coolers.
- Continuing safety recognition throughout the year and beyond: T.J. is now in the running for the 2019 year-end safety excellence grand prize. Says Pope, “we’re going to select a final recipient from each division at the end of the year and do something special for them.”
Gaines and Company is a full service grading and excavation company with a groundbreaking safety excellence program. In both the Maryland and North Carolina divisions, a Safety Excellence Achievement Award is given on a quarterly basis to any employee who goes above and beyond in their dedication to safety.
