Maryland’s 2023 Year-End Safety Excellence Achievement Award Winner

The success of Gaines and Company’s safety program lies within its employees – safely working, day in and day out. As a way to recognize those who exceed expectations and enhance the company’s safety culture, Gaines and Company’s leadership awards a quarterly and annual Safety Excellence Achievement Award. Maryland’s 2023 Year-End Safety Excellence Achievement awardee is Victor Rivera.

Victor was awarded an award certificate, Gaines and Company custom safety award winner hat, lunchbox, and $250 in safety bucks to spend at the company’s online safety store.

Victor – who has been with Gaines and Company for 20 years – was recognized in the second quarter of 2023 with the Safety Excellence Achievement Award for spreading his safety-focused mindset and positive attitude throughout his crew.

“I have nothing bad to say about Victor. He has been with the organization for over 20 years. He leaves a lasting impression with every crew he’s been on because he’s a dedicated and reliable crew member,” said Foreman Pat Dixon. “Victor checks equipment – like tools, straps, and lifting gear – every day. He is never afraid to speak up and is always on top of things. He’s a true asset to our team!”

“Victor will actually send me pictures of equipment that needs fixed. That’s the kind of worker he is. He goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is safe,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “Also, Victor has a contagious personality – always happy and smiling. New employees gravitate toward him because they feel comfortable asking him questions. He’s a great mentor and always looks out for the entire crew. He’s a large part of the success of our safety program.”

What to expect from Gaines and Company’s safety culture in 2024?

“2023 was a great year for us,” said Dominic. “I watched a lot of our veteran employees step up and really push the organization to always think safer. Now we’re considered one of the top utility contractors in the state of Maryland. I expect our employees will continue prioritizing safety and successful operations as we further that reputation with more training, collaboration, and experience.”
