Gaines Prepares the Next Generation of Construction Experts

From the office…

In Gaines and Company’s 70+ years of site development expertise, it has seen multiple generations move through its workforce. How does it maintain its industry-leading site development reputation? Gaines welcomes opportunities to prepare the next generation of experts, such as offering internship opportunities to ambitious and high-potential up-and-comers. This Summer, Gaines is happy to welcome its newest intern – William “Buck” Franklin.

Buck is a Construction Management student at Clemson University. This Fall, he will move into his second year of study. Gaines is giving him invaluable mentorship and hands-on experience on site and in the office this Summer.

…to the job site, Buck is getting hands-on, construction experience as Gaines’s 2025 Summer intern.

“I got into Construction Management because I’m interested in business and engineering. I took a couple classes that were construction-focused, and found it’s a good blend of both business and engineering,” said Buck.

This Summer, Buck has had the opportunity to experience Gaines’s role in the construction industry from the office to job sites. He has met people throughout the company to see how a site development company operates and has even been given the opportunity to get his hands dirty on job sites.

“The best part of this internship so far is the opportunity to just get started. I don’t have a huge construction background, so this internship is letting me see what I’ve been learning in the classroom,” added Buck.
