Gaines Delivers Different Safety Message This Construction Safety Week & NSSD

Gaines and Company crews share a bond with the common goal of keeping everyone safe all day, every day.
Every May, Gaines and Company safety teams visit crews on our job sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions in recognition of two safety events: Construction Safety Week and OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction. We’ve recognized these events in the past, and we will continue to participate in them in the future since they align with our safety values. But why is this year different?

Due to the nature of Gaines and Company’s site development work, we focus on preventing falls all year long. Fall prevention is often the topic of our pre-job safety briefs, as well as identified in our pre-work hazard identification.
“Our focus this year isn’t so much on specific safety points. We talk about these safety topics regularly on our site development job sites,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “Instead, we are encouraging our teams to keep doing what they’re doing. We want them to continue coming to work knowing that safety is everyone’s responsibility and everyone plays a part all day, every day.”

From continuously moving heavy equipment to fall risks, construction work has it dangers. But a unified, succinct safety culture with the commitment and dedication from all employees ensures that Gaines crews make it home safely each day.
“The safety briefs that we are having with our crews this month are not us talking to them. Instead, we are having two-way conversations to express concerns and ideas to continue making our job sites safer and safer each day,” added Safety Manager Tommy Trent.
At Gaines and Company, we are not only known for our industry-leading site development work spanning Maryland, North Carolina, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C., but we are also known for our comprehensive safety program – and we have the awards to prove it. Just some of the awards that Gaines has won in the last few years include:
- Multiple Dig Smart Awards and Honorable Mention
- Multiple NCI Risk Excellence Awards
- CRSC’s Gold Award of Excellence
- NSC’s Hazard Recognition Award
- Multiple NSC Safe Driver Awards
- Multiple MMTA’s Driver of the Month Awards
- Multiple SCD Site Contractor Conservation Stewardship Awards
- KHovnanian’s Land Development Safety Award
- Several consecutive years of NUCA Trench Safety Stand Down Participation Certificates
- Several consecutive years of OSHA Safe+Sound Week Participation Certificates
“As an organization, we will continue to be vigilant in our safety processes, procedures, and conversations to ensure everyone returns home safely at the end of each workday. This isn’t something driven from top down. It is a universal priority with involvement from every employee throughout the Gaines organization,” said Dominic. “And we couldn’t be prouder of our employees with how they take ownership of this goal to keep everyone safe.”
