A Hero’s Welcome Home

Vice President David Gaines was working at the North Carolina office in 2006 when he learned about Joey Bozik, an Army veteran who was disabled by a roadside bomb while serving in Iraq. David, who served in the Marines, set about coordinating the building of a new home for Joey and his wife Jayme.
First, a lot in the Southern Oaks neighborhood of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. was donated by Gaines and Company’s affiliate L&M Fuquay, then many donations came pouring in from suppliers and subcontractors allowing site builder Royal Oaks Homes to build an adaptive house especially for the Bozik’s.
After spending a year and a half recovering from his injuries at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C, Joey, a purple heart and bronze star recipient, was able to return to North Carolina to a home he and his wife could call their own.
The “Welcome Home” celebration included a greeting by former Senator Elizabeth Dole, a dedication of the Bozik’s new home by the Homebuilder’s Association, a performance by the NC State Dance Squad, and fanfare by the 42nd Airborne band and choir. The Flying Angels also parachuted onto the development site from 10,000 feet, making it truly a day to remember.
