Gaines and Company Employee Recognized for Identifying Potential Safety Hazards

North Carolina Quarterly Safety Award – 2ND Quarter 2021

Brian Royal was recognized as one of two recipients from Gaines and Company’s North Carolina location with the quarterly Safety Excellence Award for his steadfast commitment to workplace safety. Brian’s work contributes to Gaines and Company’s nearly 70-year reputation for being an industry leader in delivering safe, quality site development work.

Gaines and Company provides grading and excavation services to various industries – including commercial and residential builders, government agencies, military installations, power plants, and municipalities – in the Maryland, Washington D.C., North Carolina, and Delaware markets. The company’s success is attributed to its workers, who are active participants in the company’s safety culture.

“Brian stands for everything that Gaines and Company is,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “He never lets the team proceed with work unless he is absolutely sure it is safe.”

Brian is a laborer and has been with Gaines and Company for four years. He has completed all necessary training, and is continually advancing his job site experience. Most significant, though, is how he focuses not only on his safety, but the safety of his entire team.

Brian’s foreman, Maximino Ramirez, who nominated him for this award, said, “Brian has an outstanding dedication to his team. One of his responsibilities includes preparing tools and equipment prior to the start of work. He always comes up to me and lets me know if something needs replaced or isn’t in good working condition. This isn’t just for his benefit, but for the safety of the entire crew. He’s always watching out for others.”

Brian was awarded a Safety Excellence Award certificate along with $150 in safety bucks to use on gear in the company’s online safety store. He is entered into the running for the 2021 year-end Safety Excellence Award, where he will be considered along with other 2021 award recipients in both Gaines and Company’s North Carolina and Maryland locations.
