The job of a pipelayer is physically demanding and requires a thorough knowledge of pipeline installation. It also requires prioritizing safety to ensure the well-being of the entire job site. After all, a pipelayer’s work is the foundation of a successful site development project. Thanks to employees like Utilities Pipelayer Gabriel Lopez, the Gaines and Company crew can trust that work is completed safely. Gabriel was recognized with Gaines and Company’s quarterly Safety Excellence Achievement Award for ensuring safe work practices.
Gabriel has been with Gaines and Company’s Maryland location for five years, starting as a laborer and working his way to his current role as a utilities pipelayer. He is certified in OSHA 10, Confined Space, and First Aid/CPR. His main responsibilities include preparing tools, equipment, and materials, as well as cutting, placing, and installing pipe for water, sewer, and storm drains.
“Gabriel is an all-around excellent employee,” said Gaines and Company Safety Director Dominic Pope. “He is always looking out for new guys and teaching them along the way. He is extremely vigilant with safety, and everyone speaks very highly of him.”
Foreman Alvero Leon, who nominated Gabriel for the award, said, “Gabriel is a hard worker and always puts safety first. He is always looking for a safer and faster way to do things. I know that I can count on him to do a good job without having to tell him what to do every step of the way.”
The Safety Excellence Achievement Award is presented to employees at Gaines and Company’s North Carolina and Maryland locations on a quarterly basis. It is given to employees nominated by their foreman and supervisors for their commitment to company safety throughout all work practices.
Gabriel received a Safety Excellence Achievement Award certificate, an exclusive award recipient hat, $150 in safety bucks to use on gear on the company’s online safety store, and a chance to be awarded the 2022 Year-End Safety Excellence Award.
