Intense Competition During Gaines and Company’s Safe + Sound Olympics

Gaines and Company employees show off their completion certificates from a past Safe + Sound Week.

Keeping with the spirit of the Summer Olympics, Gaines and Company will have a little competition of their own: Safe + Sound Olympics. You won’t find our operators doing flips on a balance beam, management swimming a 100-meter backstroke, or office staff competing in the pole vault. But this competition does require commitment, teamwork, and daily practice. The Gaines and Company Safe + Sound Olympics is a competition focused on employee knowledge and commitment to the Gaines and Company safety culture.

“It’s easy for a company’s health and safety program to just fall into the checklist of components of a responsible organization. But safety is so critical in the site development work of Gaines and Company that we can’t let that happen. In fact, complacency could destroy a safety culture,” said Gaines and Company’s Safety Director Dominic Pope. “So we decided to have some fun with OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week this year by turning it into a little competition with our North Carolina and Maryland employees.”

Throughout the 2021 Safe + Sound Week, which runs from August 9-15, Gaines and Company employees will compete in a series of safety-focused events. Ranging from trivia to hazard identification competitions, employees will have the opportunity to show off their safety skills and knowledge, upholding their personal commitment to the organization’s safety culture.

“It’s just a fun, company-wide competition. In the end, all employees focused on commitment, teamwork, and the daily practice of company health and safety practices win. But, as with all good competitions, winners will be rewarded with prizes and safety bucks for our online safety store,” added Dominic.

Safe + Sound Week is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) initiative to raise awareness of the importance of a strong worksite health and safety culture. Last year, more than 3,400 organizations throughout the country joined together in recognizing the event.
