Gaines and Company Site Development specializes in more than underground utilities, grading, excavating, erosion controls, and road work. Most importantly, they specialize in safety. One of the company’s newest safety initiatives— the Safety Excellence Award— wrapped up its inaugural year with the presentation of the 2018 Safety Excellence Award.
The Safety Excellence Award recognizes workers who show exceptional dedication to safety throughout their work, including incorporating safety into daily work processes and reporting potential hazards. Contenders must also show a strong dedication to the safety of not just themselves, but the entire work force, as well as be regarded as a safe worker from the foreman or customer. Recipients are not only selected by upper management, foremen, and superintendents, but also peers.
Laborer Lisward “Moe” Moore was the 2018 Gaines and Company Safety Excellence Award recipient for the North Carolina office. He has been with the company since February 2014 and was presented the award due to his steadfast diligence to safety in 2018.
“Moe continually shows his dedication to the safety of not just himself, but the entire Gaines crews,” said Dominic Pope, safety director. “When he recognizes an issue, he not only reports it, but works to correct it immediately. He is continually seen mentoring the younger generation, not just teaching them how to do the job safely with words, but also demonstrating proper safety habits with his actions.”
The award is presented quarterly to a recipient in each of Gaines and Company’s two offices. From the quarterly recipients, one candidate from each office is awarded the year-end award. Moore was presented a gift card, as well as a $100 credit to spend on the Gaines and Company safety incentive website.
