Operator Demonstrates Outstanding Safety Leadership
North Carolina Quarterly Safety Award – 3rd Quarter 2021
Gaines and Company employees don’t just go through the motions every day on the jobsite.
They care about their work. They care about their delivery. And, most of all, they care about each other. That’s why company management feels it’s important to recognize employees that lead the team, constantly enhancing work performance and ensuring sitewide safety.
North Carolina’s Mildred Muroz was recently awarded the Safety Excellence Achievement Award for consistently demonstrating safety leadership.

“We have such a great crew of workers who are not only committed to delivering quality work, but also to personal and team safety. We feel we owe it to these employees to recognize their efforts with the Safety Excellence Achievement Award. After all, our employees are the reason why Gaines and Company is an industry leader in site development services,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “It’s workers like Mildred who exhibit this dedication and commitment every day, setting a standard for the rest of her team.”
Mildred Muroz is a Gaines and Company operator, who is certified in equipment operation and has completed new hire orientation. Even though she has been with the organization for less than a year, she does not shy away from leading the team with a strong safety performance. Thomas Bradsher, Mildred’s supervisor, nominated her for the Safety Excellence Achievement Award.
“Mildred is a very hard worker who demonstrates leadership every day. She tackles every task promptly and with 100% of her efforts and capabilities. She always shows up to work on time in all of her [personal protective equipment] PPE. She is always the first one here and ready to work hard,” said Thomas. “Mildred properly sets an example for safety every day.”
Mildred was awarded a Safety Excellence Achievement Award certificate, exclusive award recipient hat, and $150 in safety bucks to use on gear on the company’s online safety store. She is now eligible for the 2021 year-end Safety Excellence Achievement Award, along with all 2021 recipients in both Gaines and Company’s Maryland and North Carolina locations. The winner of the year-end award will be announced in the first quarter of 2022.
Gaines and Company is a full-service grading and excavation company with a groundbreaking safety excellence program. In both the Maryland and North Carolina divisions, a Safety Excellence Achievement Award is given on a quarterly basis to employees who go above and beyond in their dedication to safety.
