Will Griffin – Safety in Action
Will Griffin is one of two Q3 2019 Gaines and Company Site Development Maryland safety recognition recipients.
He was presented with the excellence award on Friday for his outstanding safety achievements.

What he does: Will is a mainline excavator operator working with Gaines and Company Site Development for 15 years. He started out as laborer being promoted several times, providing him with invaluable underground excavation safety training and experience he is quick to share with employees, crew and the public.
Training & Certifications: Competent Person training, Heavy Equipment training certification, Confined Space and Trench Excavation safety. Will’s training is centered around trench safety including working with trench boxes, open cut and sloping ditches up to ten feet deep and digging as deep as 25 feet with boxes and using steel plates.

His foreman says: “He looks out for crews in underground utility situations like ditches and won’t let anyone inside a trench if its’ not safe. He does a very good job.”
Safety values: Will has a direct knowledge of site development, underground utility construction, storm water management and roadway work safety. He is first to explain to employees trench ladder safety and double checks for safe pipe strapping before ever lifting an excavator bucket. This also means being on the side of the excavator where he visually can correct any potential unsafe activity before it occurs.

Continuing safety recognition throughout the year and beyond: Will is now in the running for the 2019 year-end safety excellence grand prize.
