Fine-Grading Laborer Recognized with Safety Excellence Achievement Award
North Carolina Quarterly Safety Award – 2nd Quarter 2022
In the fourth quarter of 2021, Ernesto Guevara was recognized for his diligence to safety after only being with Gaines and Company for a couple of months. Since then, this dedication to enhancing the company’s safety culture has increased even more. Therefore, he is once again honored with the Safety Excellence Achievement Award.
Gaines and Company’s Safety Excellence Achievement Award is presented to employees in both the Maryland and North Carolina locations who go above and beyond with safety. These are the employees who ensure personal and team safety throughout all Gaines and Company’s operations. The award is given on a quarterly basis, with a year-end award given to one employee from each location.
Ernesto is a fine-grading laborer with responsibilities that include ensuring all tools and equipment are accessible and in exceptional condition and preparing, cleaning, and securing the work area. He has been with the organization for just over a year and continues to enhance the company’s safety culture.
Ernesto’s foreman Napoleon Ramos nominated him for this award, as well as the award he received in 2021. Napoleon said, “I nominated him for this award because I can always count on him to get the job done right. He isn’t afraid to speak up and always makes sure the job is completed safely.”
Gaines and Company Safety Director Dominic Pope added, “Ernesto cares about the safety of everyone on the site. He diligently and meticulously inspects the crew’s equipment to ensure it is in good working condition every day, and he reports hazards so they can be immediately addressed.”
Ernesto was awarded the Safety Excellence Achievement Award certificate, an exclusive award recipient hat, $150 in safety bucks to use on gear on the company’s online safety store, and is in the running for the 2022 Year-End Safety Excellence Award.
Gaines and Company is a full-service grading and excavation company with nearly 70 years of experience, including underground utilities, grading and excavating, sediment and erosion controls, and road work. The organization is proud of their groundbreaking safety excellence program. In both the Maryland and North Carolina divisions, a Safety Excellence Achievement Award is given on a quarterly basis to employees who go above and beyond in their dedication to safety.
