Lee Gaines, President of Gaines and Company a full service site development contractor, believes a cure for muscular dystrophy is just around the corner.
That is why for the past ten years he has been volunteering as Founder and Senior Committee Board Member of ‘PARTY FOR A CURE’ Maryland (PFAC-MD), a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life threatening diseases that limit strength and mobility.
PFAC just celebrated its’ tenth annual fundraiser this June at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, MD, an event that raised over $120,000, tipping the scales to a $1 million overall donations milestone for afflicted children and their families in Maryland.

“You can’t help but be impressed by all these kids,” Gaines comments thoughtfully. “You know how tough life is in some ways for them, so it’s pretty easy to want to lend a hand to try and make things better for them.”

The fundraiser included a silent auction, live band and gourmet food, all provided with robust support for research and summer camp activities for the MDA of Baltimore. Some of the event participants who themselves have neuromuscular disease, brought their own artwork for the live auction.
Attendee proceeds will provide much needed new and repaired medical equipment, for which Gaines and Company was a sponsor, and also contribute to major home renovations for accessibility and structural stability.
“So many contractors attended, many of which helped renovate a Parkville home for a family in need” said Karen Barbour, PFAC Founder. “In addition to what we raised, over $175,000 of time, material and labor were donated to correct access issues in and to the home,” she added.
“Our volunteer board makes certain that we give back to Maryland families in need, as well as support research and summer camp activities for MDA of Baltimore.”
