Gaines and Company Recognizes May’s Safety Observances
Gaines and Company’s grading and utility crews in its Maryland and North Carolina locations routinely discuss safe work practices during daily pre-job meetings.
Gaines and Company’s Maryland and North Carolina locations would not be industry leaders in site development services throughout the Mid-Atlantic region if it was not for their strong, company-wide dedication to safety. This week (May 1-5), two major industry safety weeks are observed. Gaines and Company recognizes these safety weeks and incorporates their messages into its company-wide safety culture all year long.
- OSHA’s 10th Annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction
Falls are the leading cause of death in construction workers. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 378 of the 986 construction fatalities in 2021 were related to workplace falls. OSHA encourages construction companies of all sizes to take time this week to discuss company-specific fall hazards and how to prevent them. - Construction Safety Week
Construction Safety Week began in 2014 to educate workers about safe work practices and encourage them to speak up if a situation appears unsafe. Gaines and Company empowers all employees throughout the organization with Stop Work Authority.
“We believe all workplace incidents are avoidable,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “We recognize both OSHA’s Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction and National Construction Safety Week this week. However, our efforts do not end there. In fact, we tirelessly work every day to ensure that we are not only providing a safe work environment for our employees, but that they are continuously watching out for the health and safety of each other.”
Gaines and Company crew members follow safety procedures to avoid falls on the jobsite.
Gaines and Company recognizes employees’ exceptional dedication to safety at both its Maryland and North Carolina locations with its Safety Excellence Achievement Award program.
“We believe it is the job of the entire organization – from upper management to entry level – to not be afraid to speak up if a situation appears unsafe – just like the messages of this week’s safety observances,” said Dominic. “We have found that this safety excellence program not only shows how safety impacts crew members, but also encourages others on the crew to work safer. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Together with OSHA, Construction Safety Week members, and the rest of the construction industry, Gaines and Company will stand-down for safety this week to stand up for safe work practices all year long.
